About Gordon the Gasman

Gordon started his career in the Gas Industry in 1976, as an apprentice with South West Gas (a region of British Gas Corporation), achieving the City and Guilds Gas Service Engineer Qualification in 1979; with 2 Credits and 1 Distinction. This covers electrical work associated with gas heating systems, downstream of a fused/switched dedicated supply.

With the ensuing denationalization of Corporations, Gordon decided to leave South West Gas, so branched out on his own in 1983. Being one of the first to do this in Cornwall. He registered with CORGI in 1985, which was replaced by Gas Safe Register, where he is now registered.

Since then the domestic gas appliance industry has changed dramatically, so by his regularly attending manufacturer’s repair and servicing training on new models, particularly gas condensing boilers and heating control systems, it is easy to keep up to date. Gas Safe Register publishes a monthly magazine that Gordon follows, highlighting legislation, technical and procedural updates. Gordon attends a Training and Assessment Centre every 5 years to obtain the necessary qualifications, to continue registering with Gas Safe Register on an annual basis.
